About Michael Spadaro

As a serial entrepreneur, creating exciting new businesses that help make the world a better, happier place is my passion. Described by peers as detailed-oriented and a natural go-getter, I take great pride in solving problems and creating value through socially-conscious endeavors that benefit the global community.

Following my attendance at New York University and graduation from Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, my desire for success has never wavered. A nonconformist of sorts, I’ve always followed the beat of my own drum. An ordinary 9-to-5 job has just never really appealed to me.

The Early Days

With a background in theatrical lighting, I started my professional career, believe it or not, on Broadway- working on Tony Award-winning productions like The Light in the Piazza and Rabbit Hole. Still, my love for entrepreneurship has always been strong.  It was my natural knack for technology that eventually led me to launch my first company, Help with a Smile.

While success didn’t come overnight, as they say in showbiz, “The show must go on.” As a first-time entrepreneur of a newly-formed company, things got off to a ridiculously rough start. I launched my business in the midst of a major financial crash, making access to credit very hard to come by. With what little money I had at the time, I invested $17,000 into advertising in hopes of generating business. Surprisingly, the phone did not ring even once! To make matters worse, the first employee I hired quit after just one week on the job.

Despite the bumpy road to success, I persevered when most business owners would have thrown in the towel. For me, failure was just never an option. Overtime, Help with a Smile went on to become a competitive IT company serving more than 1,000 clients in the greater NYC area and annually generating seven figure sales.

A New Chapter

As the company grew and evolved, Help with a Smile morphed into Profound Cloud. Under the new name, I switched the company from a pay-by-the-hour model for small businesses to a fixed-fee recurring revenue stream model that also catered to larger companies. Profound Cloud quickly became the go-to-expert in cutting-edge cloud technologies, soon catching the eye of potential buyers.

In April 2017, my journey with Profound Cloud culminated with the company being acquired by an industry-leading competitor. Despite parting ways with a company and team I deeply loved, I refuse to slow down. I’m constantly looking for my next adventure. In fact, I recently launched several new ventures in the direct-to-consumer e-commerce space. I also continue to explore socially-conscious business opportunities that support local organic agriculture and promote good health for all. I believe putting food security back into the hands of small farmers and families is a great first step towards a healthier, happy society.

Off The Clock

In my downtime, I enjoy a good game of scrabble with my wife, making a tasty homemade cocktail and learning how to farm. To date, I’ve managed to grow cherry tomatoes, okra, green beans and hot peppers from my NYC balcony apartment, but I’ll admit that I’ve still got a lot to learn. Unfortunately, pests devour my crops before I can.

When I’m not working or trying to take it easy, I stay very active in my community. I have served as a board member for the NY-chapter of EO Accelerator, mentored early-stage entrepreneurs, served as a keynote speaker at the 2014 PMAI Conference and served on the Brother Small Business Advisory Panel. I’ve also taught marketing workshops through SCORE and Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses.
